🕯️ More than five decades later, Douglas Chapman has never been found.
On the morning of June 2, 1971, three-year-old Douglas “Dougie” Chapman was playing outside his family’s mobile home on Alfred Gore Road in Alfred, Maine.
He was playing in a sand pile approximately 25 yards from his home while his mother was inside speaking on the telephone.
When she went outside to check on her little boy, Douglas was gone.
He has never been heard from again.

Douglas was reportedly wearing:

🔍 THE SEARCH
Douglas’s disappearance sparked an extensive search involving hundreds of volunteers, but no trace of the little boy was found.
Police tracker dogs reportedly followed Douglas’s scent through a field, past an apple orchard, onto a farm, and down a driveway toward the main road. The scent appeared to end near the road.
Douglas’s father, who was an auxiliary police officer at the time, later expressed his belief that his son may have been taken from that location in a vehicle.
Authorities initially considered the possibility that Douglas had wandered away and become lost. However, because he was never located, investigators later considered that possibility unlikely.
⚠️ A CASE THAT WAS REOPENED
Douglas’s case was reopened in 1993 at the request of his father.
Investigators have ruled out members of Douglas’s family as suspects. His disappearance remains unsolved.
His case is classified as a non-family abduction.
