More than three decades have passed since a 26-year-old mother walked away from a hospital in Bangor, Maine, determined to get home to her children.

She never made it home.

Her name was Virginia Sue Pictou Noyes.

And after all these years, her family is still searching for answers.

💔 A Mother Who Wanted to Get Home

Virginia was the mother of five children at the time of her disappearance. Her family remembers her as bright, funny, resourceful, and deeply devoted to her children.

On April 24, 1993, Virginia was in Bangor with her husband, Larry Noyes, and his brother, Roger.

An argument reportedly turned violent outside a tavern. Virginia was assaulted and taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Larry was arrested on a domestic assault charge, while Roger was also facing an assault charge.

But Virginia had one thing on her mind: She wanted to get home to her children.

Before her medical evaluation was complete, Virginia left the hospital.

She would never be seen by her family again.

🚗 The Last Known Trail

Investigators believe Virginia eventually made her way to a truck stop in Houlton during the early morning hours.

There, she reportedly made phone calls trying to find someone who could give her a ride home to Easton.

Then she disappeared.

Somewhere between Houlton and Easton, Virginia’s trail went cold.

Her family believes she was trying to make her way home on foot or by finding a ride.

They have never believed she would willingly abandon her children.

🕵️‍♀️ Foul Play Suspected

Virginia’s disappearance has long been considered suspicious.

Her family has believed for decades that she was the victim of foul play. Investigators have also considered the possibility that she was killed.

Larry and Roger Noyes were considered persons of interest in connection with her disappearance. However, neither man was ever charged in Virginia’s disappearance, and both maintained their innocence.

The assault charges stemming from the night Virginia disappeared were ultimately dropped after she could no longer testify.

Larry died in 2018. Roger died in 2009.

Neither ever provided a resolution to the mystery of what happened to Virginia.

🧡 Remembering Virginia

Virginia was more than a missing-person case.

She was a daughter. A sister. A mother.

A member of the Mi’kmaq community.

Her family remembers a woman who loved her children and wanted to be there for them.

Virginia had brown hair and brown eyes and stood approximately 5’5″ tall, weighing around 125 pounds.

She had distinctive high cheekbones, scar tissue on her left elbow, a V-shaped scar on her right forearm, an indentation on one of her front teeth, and a Playboy bunny tattoo on her left shoulder.

👕 When she was last seen, she was wearing:

  • A white T-shirt
  • A denim jacket
  • Blue jeans
  • White L.A. Gear sneakers

🕯️ A Family That Has Never Stopped Looking

For Virginia’s family, the passage of time has not brought closure.

They have continued to speak her name, share her story, and push for answers.

Her brother Robert has even created a beaded portrait of Virginia using thousands of individual beads, keeping her memory alive and ensuring that people see the woman behind the missing-person photograph.

Her family has said they will continue searching for answers for as long as it takes.

Her children deserve to know what happened to her.
