📍 Ashland / Fort Kent, Maine
📅 Missing since: May 12, 1977
👦 Age at disappearance: 18
🎂 Age today: 68
⚠️ Classification: Endangered Missing

On May 12, 1977, 18-year-old Bernard Richard “Bunny” Ross Jr. disappeared in northern Maine.

Nearly five decades later, his family is still waiting for answers.

Bernard was living in Fort Kent when he vanished. He was reportedly despondent at the time and was last seen in a wooded area off Realty Road near the Ashland-Portage town line.

Then, he disappeared.

🚙 The Abandoned Truck

On the day Bernard went missing, he reportedly took a truck from his aunt’s home in Presque Isle.

The vehicle was later discovered more than 20 miles away.

It was abandoned and undamaged.

Bernard was nowhere to be found.

The truck’s owner ultimately chose not to press charges against him.

Bernard had no known prior criminal record.

Despite searches of the area, there was no confirmed trace of him, and he has never been heard from again.

🔎 Who Was Bernard?

Bernard was known by the nicknames “Bun” and “Bunny.”

At 18 years old, he was approximately:

  • 👤 White male
  • 📏 6’1″ tall
  • ⚖️ 160 pounds
  • 💇 Blond hair
  • 👀 Blue eyes
  • 🩹 Scar on his abdomen
  • 🩹 Small chickenpox scars on his nose
  • 🧔 May have had a thin mustache

He was last known to be wearing:

Bernard was reportedly taking Thorazine at the time of his disappearance.

✉️ Then, Nearly 40 Years Later…

In 2016, something unexpected happened.

Bernard’s parents reportedly received an anonymous, unsigned letter claiming to have information about what happened to him.

The letter referenced a newspaper story about Bernard’s disappearance.

Police could not immediately determine whether the information was genuine or simply a hoax.

But after nearly four decades without answers, the letter was enough to reopen attention on Bernard’s case.

Maine State Police asked the anonymous writer to come forward.

Investigators emphasized that there was no way to know whether the information in the letter was accurate.

Still, for a family that had spent decades wondering where Bernard was, it brought a new wave of questions and perhaps a glimmer of hope. 🕯️

💔 Nearly Five Decades of Questions

Bernard disappeared when he was just 18 years old.

His family has spent decades without knowing what happened to him or where he might be.

An age-progressed image shows what Bernard may have looked like at approximately 58 years old.

Today, he would be 68.
