ππ The Disappearance of Nicholas Jay Foster: A New Hampshire Mystery π²π°οΈ
On March 5, 1998, 18-year-old Nicholas Jay Foster vanished from Winchester, New Hampshire, leaving behind personal belongings, a trail of unanswered questions, and a family still without the answers they deserve.
Known as Nick, Nicholas was living with his parents and working at Cerosimo Lumber at the time. He had left school during his junior year and was saving money to get his own apartment closer to work. There was no known indication that he planned to leave the area or start a new life somewhere else.
Nicholas was last seen near an unused railroad trestle in Winchester, reportedly in the company of a friend who later left him there. In the days that followed, some of his belongings, including his wallet, cigarettes, lighter, and jacket, were discovered along the railroad tracks near the entrance to Thicket Hill. His black-and-white checked flannel jacket was among the items reported missing from the belongings found.
Nicholas was never heard from again.
Investigators noted that he had left paychecks behind at work, leading to speculation about what might have happened. However, no definitive explanation has ever been established, and Nicholas has never been found. His disappearance remains unresolved, with no confirmed answers about what happened near those tracks that day.
At the time he went missing, Nicholas was 18 years old. He had brown hair and brown eyes, wore wire-framed glasses, and had two missing teeth along with six dental restorations. He was approximately 5’11” to 6 feet tall and weighed between 130 and 150 pounds, according to varying case records. He was reportedly wearing a sweatshirt, jeans, Nike hiking boots, and a black-and-white checked quilted flannel jacket. He was known to dress in layers.
More than 28 years have passed since Nick disappeared. The belongings found along the tracks remain a troubling part of the case, but they do not tell the full story of what happened to him. Somewhere, there may be someone who remembers something important, something they witnessed, heard, or were told years ago that could help investigators finally understand his disappearance.
