🔎Missing for More Than 50 Years: The Disappearance of Catherine “Cathy” Davidson🕯️
On September 1, 1973, six-year-old Catherine Barbara Davidson disappeared during a family trip to Warren Dunes State Park in Sawyer, Michigan. More than five decades later, her whereabouts remain unknown, and investigators are still seeking answers about what happened to her.
Cathy, who was from Chicago, was reportedly at the park with her father, stepmother and five older siblings for a family picnic. According to her parents, the children went to explore an area near Painterville Drain, which empties into Lake Michigan. About 15 minutes later, the other children returned to the vehicle, but Cathy was missing.
An extensive search followed, but there was no sign of the little girl. A pair of green underpants was reportedly found in the area, though investigators were never able to establish whether they belonged to Cathy.
Years later, troubling allegations emerged about what may have happened to her. In 2017, Cathy’s younger half-sister, Joy, came forward with information she said she had learned from another sibling. Joy alleged that Cathy had never gone to the park that day and had already died before the family trip. She described claims involving abuse inside the family’s Chicago home. These allegations prompted renewed attention to the case, but Cathy’s fate has never been established.
The family later became involved in a religious group led by Cathy’s stepmother, Anna Young. Former members made additional allegations involving the deaths and mistreatment of children within the group. Anna was eventually convicted in connection with the deaths of two children, Emon Harper and Katonya Jackson. She died in 2021 while serving her sentence.
Despite these developments, no one has ever been charged in connection with Cathy’s disappearance. Investigators have also not established what happened to another child, Marcos Cruz, who was reportedly associated with the group.
The FBI and Michigan State Police continue to seek information that could help determine what happened to Cathy. She was only six years old when she vanished, and the questions surrounding her disappearance have remained unanswered for more than 50 years.
