🌲🕯️ Still Missing After 36 Years: The Disappearance of Christopher Alan Temple
On the night of April 22, 1990, 17-year-old Christopher Alan “Chris” Temple walked into the woods near Rose Lake Recreation Area in Bath Township, Michigan. He never came back.
Christopher had spent the day celebrating Earth Day at Riverfront Park before heading to the campground with four friends. Later that evening, the group gathered around a campfire. At approximately 9:00 p.m., Christopher walked away from the campsite and into the surrounding woods. He was never seen again.
An extensive search of the area followed, but investigators found no trace of him. About a year and a half later, one of Christopher’s sneakers was discovered roughly 300 yards southwest of the campsite, in an area that had already been searched. The shoe appeared heavily weathered, raising questions about how long it had been there.
At the time of his disappearance, Christopher was a senior in high school and was preparing to graduate. He was a strong student, earning straight A’s and maintaining perfect attendance at Haslett Community Education. He enjoyed swimming and working with his hands, and his family had transferred him to a smaller school where they believed he would receive more individual attention.
Investigators initially considered the possibility that Christopher had run away, but foul play is now suspected. One theory suggests he may have been harmed by someone who was angry with him over a drug-related dispute, though this has never been confirmed. Despite searches and years of investigation, what happened after Christopher walked into those woods remains unknown.
Christopher was just 17 years old. He should have had the opportunity to finish high school and begin the next chapter of his life. Instead, his family has spent decades without knowing what happened to him.
