The Vanishing of Anthony Peter Tumolo 🚨💔

More than five decades have passed, yet the disappearance of Anthony Peter Tumolo remains one of Philadelphia’s most heartbreaking unsolved mysteries.

Anthony was just 14 years old when he vanished on October 15, 1966, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Described as 5’2” tall and weighing approximately 110 pounds, Anthony had black hair, brown eyes, and a distinctive scar on his right cheek. On the day he disappeared, he was wearing a navy blue three-quarter-length wool coat with red lining, a blue corduroy shirt, black Levi’s jeans, black socks, and black shoes.

That afternoon, Anthony left his home on his bicycle to meet his best friend, Jack Marino. Earlier in the day, the boys had spent time together and made plans to reunite after dinner. Unknowingly, they each set out for the other’s house at about the same time and missed one another along the way. When Jack arrived at Anthony’s home and learned he had already left, he returned home expecting to find him there. However, Anthony never arrived.

Concern grew as the evening passed. Jack spent hours searching for his friend throughout the neighborhood but found no sign of him. Anthony did not return home that night, but his parents assumed he had stayed with Jack. It wasn’t until the following morning, when customers along Anthony’s newspaper route called wondering why their papers had not been delivered, that anyone realized something was seriously wrong. Friends and family say it was completely out of character for Anthony to miss his route, as he was known for being dependable and responsible.

Investigators initially considered the possibility that Anthony had run away after disagreements with his parents over his school performance and newspaper job. Their belief was reinforced when two classmates claimed they had seen Anthony several days after he disappeared. As a result, authorities reduced their search efforts. Years later, however, one of those classmates admitted the sightings were entirely fabricated. The boys had made up the story to avoid getting into trouble for arriving late to school, eliminating one of the most significant leads in the case.

Jack, who later became a police officer, never accepted the runaway theory. He maintained that Anthony was deeply devoted to his family, including his eight siblings, and had never expressed any desire to leave. Anthony also left behind personal belongings, cash, and an uncashed paycheck, details that suggested he had no plans to disappear voluntarily.

One theory that has persisted over the years is that Anthony may have been struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle and that the driver panicked and concealed both his body and bicycle. Interstate 95 was under construction in the area at the time, potentially providing a location where evidence could have been hidden. Although this theory has never been proven, investigators have acknowledged it as a plausible possibility.

Anthony’s parents both passed away without ever learning what happened to their son. His father died just two years after the disappearance, and his mother passed away in 2001. Despite the decades that have gone by, Anthony’s older sister and his lifelong friend Jack continue searching for answers.

Today, nearly 60 years later, the mystery of what happened to Anthony Peter Tumolo remains unsolved. His loved ones have never stopped hoping that someone, somewhere, knows the truth and will finally come forward.

Anyone with information about Anthony’s disappearance is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department at (215) 685-3257.

đź’™ After all these years, Anthony’s family still deserves answers.
