The Guthrie Family
Katonah, New York

🔍💔 The Unsolved Disappearance of Leslie Guthrie and Her Children 💔🔍
On February 5, 1977, 29-year-old Leslie Anne Guthrie vanished along with her two young children, Julie Anne Guthrie, age 6, and Timothy Patrick Guthrie, age 3, after leaving Katonah, New York. The family was last seen at approximately 1:30 p.m. when Leslie picked up the children from their father’s home on Grandview Avenue and drove away in a white 1974 Ford Maverick with a green roof and New York license plate 636-WNA. Despite extensive investigations and decades of searching, neither Leslie, her children, nor their vehicle have ever been found.
At the time of her disappearance, Leslie was separated from her husband, Timothy Guthrie Sr., but those close to the family described their relationship as amicable. Leslie had been living with her mother in White Plains, New York, and there was no indication that she planned to leave her life behind. She took no significant personal belongings, withdrew no substantial amount of money from her bank accounts, and made no arrangements suggesting she intended to disappear voluntarily. When Leslie and the children failed to return, Timothy Sr. reported them missing on February 6, 1977. Authorities later ruled him out as a suspect after he fully cooperated with investigators and spent years pursuing leads on his own.
Leslie was described as a white female with brown hair and brown eyes, standing between 5’4″ and 5’7″ and weighing approximately 120 pounds. She was reportedly wearing an old ski jacket, jeans, and borrowed boots that were two sizes too small when she disappeared. She also had distinctive strawberry birthmarks on her chin and back, and her maiden name was Locke.
Over the years, numerous theories have emerged regarding the family’s fate. Some speculated that Leslie may have started a new life elsewhere with her children, while others wondered if she had become involved with a religious group or cult. However, investigators increasingly believe the most likely explanation may be a tragic accident. Since the family disappeared together with their vehicle and no trace of either has ever surfaced, some experts theorize that the Ford Maverick may have left the roadway during the snowy winter conditions and become submerged in one of the many lakes, ponds, or reservoirs throughout the region.
In recent years, renewed efforts have been made to solve the mystery. The Bedford Police Department, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and volunteer search organizations have continued investigating the case. Specialized search teams have used sonar equipment to examine nearby bodies of water, including Wampus Pond in Westchester County, searching for evidence of the missing vehicle. Although these searches have not yet produced answers, investigators remain committed to finding the truth.
Today, Leslie would be 78 years old, Julie would be 55, and Timothy would be 52. Age-progressed images have been released in hopes that someone may recognize them or remember information that could help solve the case. Nearly five decades later, the disappearance of the Guthrie family remains one of New York’s most enduring unsolved mysteries, leaving loved ones and investigators still searching for answers and hoping for long-awaited closure.
