Missing Since: August 20, 2005 | Brooklyn, New York
More than two decades have passed since Tirrel Santiago, who was lovingly known as Mia, disappeared without a trace. Mia was just 16 years old when she was last seen on the evening of August 20, 2005, getting into a taxi with an unidentified man near the 300 block of Rodney Street in Brooklyn, New York. Since that night, no one has heard from or seen her.
Born on September 24, 1988, Tirrel was male at birth but identified and presented as female, going by the name Mia. At the time of her disappearance, she was a student at the Repertory Company High School for Theatre Arts, with dreams and a future that should never have been interrupted.
Mia is described as a Black/African American transgender female with light brown hair, brown eyes, standing approximately 5’6″ tall and weighing around 115 pounds at the time she disappeared. An age-progressed image has been created to show what she may look like today, now 37 years old.
Mia’s disappearance remains classified as an Endangered Missing case, and her loved ones continue to search for answers. Every missing person deserves to be remembered, and every family deserves the truth. No matter how much time has passed, someone may still hold the key to bringing answers and justice.
If you have any information, no matter how small it may seem, please contact the New York Police Department at (212) 694-7781.
💜 Please share Mia’s story. Someone, somewhere, knows what happened. Together, we can help keep hope alive and ensure she is never forgotten.
