On September 14, 2013, 4-year-old Nikhita Jagtiani was taken from Rego Park, New York, in what authorities describe as a family abduction. Investigators allege that she was abducted by her non-custodial mother, Anupama Sharma, during a time when Nikhita’s parents were separated and shared custody. It is believed that Nikhita and her mother traveled to India, where they may still be today. On June 13, 2016, a federal kidnapping warrant was issued for Sharma in connection with Nikhita’s disappearance.
Today, Nikhita is 16 years old, but for more than 12 years, her father, loved ones, and those who care about missing children have continued to hope for the day she is found safe. A childhood filled with birthdays, holidays, milestones, and precious memories has passed without the certainty of where she is. Despite the years that have gone by, her case remains active, and every new piece of information could make a difference.
At the time she disappeared, Nikhita was 4 years old, approximately 3 feet tall, weighed about 30 pounds, and had brown hair and brown eyes.
