💔 47 YEARS LATER, AND ANDREW AMATO IS STILL MISSING
On September 30, 1978, four-year-old Andrew “Andy” Amato disappeared from a wooded area near his home in Webster, Massachusetts.
Andrew was just a little boy. He had blonde hair, blue eyes, and was described by his sister as a sweet and caring child who would share whatever he had with others. That September morning, Andrew was playing outside with his seven-year-old sister and six-year-old cousin near the Ash Street Trailer Park, close to their home on Richard Avenue.
The children followed a trail into the woods near what is now I-395. At one point, Andrew stumbled near a brook and dropped his toy. He refused to leave without it, so his family went to get help.
But when they returned…
Andrew was gone. 💔
His sister, Michelle, has carried the weight of that day with her for nearly five decades. She has spoken about how deeply the disappearance has affected her and her family, including the heartbreak of knowing that her mother passed away without ever getting the answers she desperately wanted.
“My mother’s not alive any longer for those answers, but I still need them, and I think my father deserves them,” Michelle said.
Imagine being a parent and waking up every day not knowing what happened to your child.
Imagine being a sibling and carrying that unanswered question for 47 years.
Imagine never knowing where your little brother is, whether he was safe, what happened to him, or where his story ultimately ended.
That is the reality Andrew’s family has lived with for nearly half a century. 😢
Andrew was approximately 3’6″ tall and weighed about 38 pounds when he disappeared. He had short blonde hair and blue eyes. He had a one-inch scar along the right side of his head near the hairline and a mole behind his right ear.
He was last seen wearing a maroon-colored snorkel jacket, jeans, a white Mickey Mouse T-shirt, and brown shoes with a jogger stripe. 🧸
An enormous search was launched after Andrew disappeared, involving local, state, and federal authorities, search dogs, dive teams, helicopters, volunteers, and National Guard personnel. Investigators have followed leads and conducted numerous interviews over the years, and searches have continued decades after Andrew vanished.
But Andrew has never been found.
The FBI and Webster Police Department continue to investigate his disappearance, and the FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
🕯️ Andrew’s family is still waiting.
Still hoping. Still searching for answers.
His sister has made an emotional plea for anyone who may know something to come forward:
“Any clue, anything that would lead to the recovery of my brother would mean the world to me.”
