🚨 STILL MISSING: What Happened to Scott Allen Hilbert? 🚨
On March 13, 1988, 18-year-old Scott Allen Hilbert left his family’s home in Milford, Ohio, during spring break from college. He left a note for his parents explaining that he was heading to Columbus to visit friends at Ohio State University. It was supposed to be a simple 90-minute drive.
Scott never arrived.
A talented young musician, Scott was studying percussion at Morehead State University in Kentucky, where he was working toward a bachelor’s degree in music. He was passionate about music, especially drums, and had his future ahead of him. But after leaving home that March morning, he vanished without a trace.
His family reported him missing on March 21, after he failed to return home and resume classes following spring break.
Then, on April 1, investigators received a discovery that only deepened the mystery.
Scott’s black 1984 Ford Tempo was found in the remote Beaver Dam Mountains Wilderness Area near Littlefield, Arizona, close to the Utah border. The vehicle was more than 1,700 miles from his Ohio home, and someone appeared to have deliberately pushed it off a cliff. It became caught in a tree, preventing it from falling completely.
The discovery raised more questions than answers.
The car’s odometer showed it had traveled approximately 3,800 miles since Scott disappeared, leaving more than 2,000 miles of unexplained travel. Both license plates had been removed and were never recovered.
Investigators discovered Scott’s fingerprint inside the vehicle, along with unidentified fingerprints. A book of matches from a Denver, Colorado, restaurant and pages from a Long Beach, California, phone book were also found inside.
Some of Scott’s belongings were scattered around the vehicle, including his Morehead State University dormitory key, a lug wrench, shampoo, and a kitchen knife from his home. However, his suitcase of clothing was never located, and there was no sign of Scott.
Despite searches of the surrounding area, he was never found.
Over the years, the investigation involved local law enforcement, the FBI, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. More than 70 people of interest were reportedly cleared, and investigators explored numerous possibilities, including suspected drug activity. Foul play is strongly suspected, but exactly what happened to Scott remains unknown.
Scott’s parents, Robert and Shirley, spent years advocating for answers and keeping their son’s case in the public eye. They described him as kind, creative, and driven, with a deep love for music. He was also close to his younger sister, Jennifer.
For his family, the unanswered questions surrounding Scott’s disappearance became a lifelong burden.
💔 Scott was only 18 years old when he disappeared. Today, he would be 57.
How did a college student who was supposedly making a short trip to visit friends end up more than 1,700 miles away in a remote Arizona wilderness? Who drove his car across the country? And what happened to Scott after he left home?
His vehicle told a story of an unexplained journey, but it never revealed where Scott went.
Please share Scott’s story. Someone may have information about his movements, the people he encountered, or the circumstances surrounding the discovery of his vehicle. Even a detail that once seemed insignificant could help investigators move this case forward.
🕊️ Scott deserves to be remembered, and his family deserves answers.
